Mauricio Calcaño

 

Born and raised in Venezuela, Mauricio discovered a passion for music at an early age. The first song he learned on bass was "En la Ciudad de la Furia" by Soda Stereo, a band that remains one of his lifelong favorites and helped shape his musical foundation. Learning that bass line led to his first band, Fuga, where he performed both original music and covers. After moving to Santiago, Chile, he joined the original metal band Presagio before eventually settling in the Washington, DC area, where he's spent the last several years playing everything from rock and pop to country. He currently holds down the low end for the high-energy cover band Rebel Rose while bringing Steve Harris' legendary bass lines to life with Eyes of the Nile.

Influences: Pedro Aznar, Alain Caron, Victor Wooten, Pino Palladino, Duff McKagan, Geddy Lee, "El Catire" of Los Amigos Invisibles, and Steve Harris, whose signature style continues to inspire his approach to bass.
